President of EESC, Ahmed Reda Chami, has chaired a meeting by video conference for the presentation of the opinion of the council on the phenomenon of addiction, entitled "Facing the addictive behaviors: state of play and recommendations".Ĭhami has, in this sense, stressed the importance of revising the Penal Code, which would allow, on the one hand, the systematic application of legal provisions that require drug users to undergo treatment and, on the other hand, the strengthening of penalties against drug trafficking networks and illegal substances.
